Vintage Design

An expressive Amsterdam School table from the interwar period, distinguished by its octagonal top and elaborately geometric construction. The design is architectural and rhythmical, unfolding through stepped planes and carefully articulated vertical elements that give the piece a strong sculptural presence.

The octagonal tabletop features a dynamic geometric veneer pattern, while refined Macassar ebony accents at the structure and feet provide contrast and visual tension. These darker details sharpen the composition and highlight the exceptional craftsmanship typical of high-quality Amsterdam School furniture.

About Amsterdam School

The Amsterdam School movement emerged in the Netherlands in the 1910s–1940s, known for its expressive forms, solid craftsmanship, and sculptural approach to design. Furniture from this period often combines architectural strength with refined detailing, emphasizing honest materials and artisanal construction. This table is a fine example of that philosophy, where form and function are inseparable.

Amsterdam School architects designed a lot of exteriors and interiors in Amsterdam, but the style spreaded further all around the Netherlands. The Hague has its own variant, called The Hague School.
