Image dimensions: 16 x 9.8 cm. This Persian Miniature: Suffer from Love is a unique precious original painting on the front and an original manuscript on the back. A beautiful original tempera painting and China ink on yellowish parchment in very good condition, except for three imperceptible lack of color. In the front, below the Persian miniature, there is a poem by Hafiz, a very popular Persian poet (Shiraz, 1315 – 1390) hand-written in a calligraphic style and in black China ink. This is Aan Robayi, a kind of Persian form of lyrics which is at the end of each line in the left part, there are words with the same consonant and music. The same poem continues on the back, inside four golden frames, with two blue ink stamp ''Collezione Pugliese''. The miniature illustrates a traditional scene of the offering by four servants to a noble or wealthy woman crouching on a beautiful pavement of an Eastern yard. The painter delicately made a repetitive hexagonal pattern on the floor with a geometric shape of blue and red, absolutely to notice. The importance of garden and yard in Eastern painting culture is considerable. As a place to demonstrate nature or its elements. Indeed in this folio half of the painting is devoted to the big pavement yard and half above located the green field to present Nature. Interestingly there are five flower bushes in the green field as there are five women in the yard part below. Thus we could understand there is an association between flowers and women, which leads to the relationship between Nature and the human world, as it demonstrates with the color of the yard and green field. As pavements of the yard have geometric shapes and very equal, the same rule for mother nature had applied, which is each of flower bush has just the same three flowers. Furthermore, the five flower bushes are in the same composition of women in the yard. Analyzing the characters of the scene, five women wearing colorful folk dresses, two of the servants' stein is orange which is beautifully harmonized with the wealthy seated woman. The main character of the scene is the woman sitting on the big traditional green comfort cushion and receiving more bottles of wine in typical goblet in Persian ‘Saghar’. Being sink and driven in boozing from love as a solution of forgetting the pain. Therefore there are many ‘Saghar’ (Persian bottles of wine) to show the amount of the pain of love with the quantity of bottle of wine, there are two in the ground, two in the hand of the servants and one in the hand of the prosperous seated woman. This miniature illustrates the poem below, dealing with the pain of love and being astonished by loved one so be lost in drinking and being drunk bewildered in ‘Meykade’,(a place of drinking wine in Persia). These words ''Saghar'' and ''Meykade'' are repeated in Hafiz's poem many times. Meykade and Mey (wine), for Hafiz are metaphoric expressions of the pain of love and separation from the loved one. The quantity of bottles of wine is metaphoric. As Most Persian and Eastern miniature, the hint is to the hidden meaning. All elements are in serving of meaning, not to appearance. This painting is in complete accordance to a famous poem of Hafiz in the back of the sheet, for who is interested in trace of the Eastern history of art and culture is a worthy piece of art and literature, the beauty of the combination of painting and poem in this folio made it magnificent. The illustration of the spiritual lovers' world through words and images. This artwork is shipped from Italy.
