About This Piece

Vintage Design

This original Jugendstil (Art Nouveau) side table was produced by Jacob & Josef Kohn in Vienna, Austria, circa 1905, and is attributed to the Austrian designer Gustav Siegel.

Executed in ebonized and stained beechwood with a mahogany-toned finish, the table exemplifies the refined geometric language of early Viennese modernism. The distinctive construction with curved legs, circular stretcher, and vertical spindle details reflects Kohn’s advanced bentwood techniques and the transition from historicism to modern design.

The piece retains its original maker’s marks, including a stamped “J. & J. Kohn – Teschen Austria”mark and remnants of the original paper label “Jacob & Josef Kohn, Wien”, confirming its authenticity and origin.

The table has been professionally restored and is in very good condition, with minor age-related wear. Small stabilized cracks are present in the bentwood elements, consistent with age, but do not affect stability or functionality.

A rare and collectible example of early 20th-century Austrian design, ideal as a side table or occasional table.
