About This Piece

Vintage Design

This charming antique storage cabinet retains its original finish, with its once vibrant colours gracefully faded to offer a rustic, textured appeal fitting for various interiors. Traditionally, the doors featured bright red framed by carved mouldings and bold green and black outer edges, characteristic of furniture from Gansu province in western China. Initially designed for grain storage, the cabinet’s interior was accessed through a narrow removable board in the top. Notably, this board remains loose rather than sealed, while the former fixed front panel has been thoughtfully altered into two doors with an added removable shelf, enhancing its practicality. The worn black lacquer top and darkened wood form a striking patina contrasting the lighter front, making this distinctive piece perfect as a contemporary sideboard or TV stand.
