Minimalist, solid wood Japanese rice mortar, circa 1900.

Beautifully weathered wood, a unique and sought-after interior object, steeped in history.

Dimensions: height 45 cm, diameter 62 cm. Weight: 53 kg.

This Mochi-Tsuki Usu has two hand-carved handles at the bottom.

This authentic solid wood mortar is stunning as a decorative element in a stylish interior and is perfect as a plant or flower holder.

This rice mortar was traditionally used in making mochi, a Japanese rice dessert. Mochi is made by pounding glutinous rice into a sticky dough ball. Using the wooden pestle, the rice is finely pounded and kneaded into a sticky mass. This process requires strength and patience, as the rice grains must be thoroughly processed into a cohesive dough.
