About This Piece

Vintage Design

A freestanding coat rack in cast and painted cast iron, Art Nouveau period, circa 1900-1910.

Its slender and symmetrical silhouette is characteristic of the period. The top is crowned with a finial in the form of a floral urn with gilt highlights, surmounted by a tulip-shaped finial. The central section features a beveled oval mirror set in a beaded frame with gilt highlights, framed by cast iron scrolls and arabesques. Several tiers of double hooks with scrolls, adorned with floral motifs, allow for the hanging of coats and hats. The lower section includes a circular umbrella ring and rests on an original oval drip tray decorated with high-relief floral motifs.

The original white/gray paint shows flaking and wear consistent with the age of the piece; the black cast iron is visible in places, particularly on the drip tray and the ring. No missing parts are noted by the seller. Cleaning and repainting should be assessed based on use. Completely original piece with its original receiver.
