Bronze Le Baiser Donné by J-A. Houdon, Late 19th Century

Bronze with brown patina from the second half of the 19th century, representing a couple embracing in a passionate embrace.
This scene was immortalized by Jean-Antoine Houdon (1741-1828) nicknamed "the Sculptor of the Enlightenment", one of the most important sculptors of the 18th century and particularly of the Neoclassical period. Appreciated for the realistic rendering of his works and his extraordinary talent, it was at the Royal Academy that the young prodigy won the First Prize for Sculpture, known as the Prix de Rome, in 1761.
" Le Baiser Donné " represents a Young Man wearing a Headband on his Wavy Hair, languidly kissing a Young Woman dressed in a Steamy Dress delicately revealing her Breasts.
A Wreath of Flowers joins the two Lovers, underlining their Love and the Attraction they feel.
The Young Woman abandons herself, wrapped in the Arms of her Beloved, in this Ode to Sensuality.
This work, signed on the back, is presented on a Circular Base, itself resting on a Square Base.
