CC, Kronborg Tall Ship Copenhagen at Sea, 1950s, Oil on Canvas

The Danish marine painter C.C. Sørensen (active in the 20th century), "Tall Ship København before Kronborg Castle," mid-20th century. Executed in oil on canvas, the elongated, panoramic painting measures approximately 45.5 x 103.3 cm. This exceptionally impressive maritime work depicts the famous Danish five-masted barque training ship "København" under full sail on a stormy sea. In the background of the composition, beyond the turbulent, white-capped, deep blue waves, rises the majestic silhouette of Kronborg Castle, the legendary fortress on the Øresund in Denmark. The fine detail in the ship's rigging and the cool, atmospheric colors of the sky testify to the painter's great expertise in classical marine painting. The distinctive signature "CC Sørensen," scratched into the wet paint in the lower left corner, is characteristic of the artist, who is renowned in Scandinavia for his precise and historically significant depictions of ships. The "København," which mysteriously vanished without a trace in the South Atlantic in 1928, is a legendary figure in Danish maritime history, lending this work, coupled with its iconic location on the Øresund, a special historical depth. For collectors of nautical antiques and Danish art, this dramatic painting represents an outstanding and highly sought-after piece.
