Ceramic and Cotton Meega C30 Floor Lamp by Jos Devriendt, Belgium, 2000s

FThe MEEGA C30 floor lamp by Jos Devriendt is made of ivory white ceramic and has a large fabric lampshade made of transparent plastic and cotton. The large size of the floor lamp provides some extra dimension to any living space.

Belgian designer Jos Devriendt was born in Ostend in 1964. His works are based on a late-surrealistic concept. His industrial designs present simple solutions for rather complex problems. Devriendt has a background in both ceramics and sculpture. He studied ceramics at the LUCA School of Arts and sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts, Ghent. He had solo exhibitions in New York City, London, and Tokyo, as well as in Belgium. Most of his work is made by hand, and are unique pieces, but occasionally he designed what he calls “low tech” products, lamps or tableware. ‘I am I’ is the first overview of his works from 1991 until 2017: tableware, vases, furniture, jewelry, but especially lamps and lighting fixtures in porcelain or stoneware, minimalist white or glazed with beautiful coloured glazes, and sometimes incorporating materials like wood, metal, and bronze.
