About This Piece

Vintage Design

A finely carved Chinese bamboo brush pot (zhúdiao bǐtǒng) from late Qing Dynasty, circa 19th century, featuring a continuous high-relief scene of scholars beneath pine trees and pavilions, richly finished in a dark brown lacquer tone.

This versatile decorative piece can also be used as a vase by placing a glass insert inside, or without one to hold twigs or dried branches. Its proportions also make it suitable as an elegant wine or bottle holder, combining aesthetic appeal with functional versatility.

The surface displays a deep natural patina enhanced by traces of old varnish and paint. The condition is good antique condition with visible signs of age and use: areas of worn varnish, three stable cracks near the base (visible on the exterior only, not through to the interior), and small surface marks consistent with age and material.

A characterful 19th-century piece of Chinese scholar art that harmoniously balances artistic carving and rustic authenticity, making it a statement object for both traditional and modern interiors.
