The Alberto Levi Gallery opened in 1997, following a family tradition that dates back to the nineteenth century. At the beginning, the gallery focused on antique carpets and textiles, but soon followed the great development of contemporary rugs and was an early promoter of the world's best rug designers. Since 2001 the Alberto Levi Gallery has been expanding its roster of artists and has presented many different collections. The gallery's focus today is on custom made carpets, woven in a range of different materials (from wool and silk to nettle and bamboo silk) in a plethora of designs. Many of these are taken from the original antiques from the gallery’s holdings, in a wide range of colors and bespoke sizes.
