Historical Design was established in New York City in 1995. The gallery focuses on important works across the modern era, from the late 19th century through today. Highlights include post-war American and European sculpture and abstract painting; decorative art from the late 19th century through to the 1970s; and modernist and avant-garde photographs from the 1920s to the present.
Over the past decade, the gallery has expanded its focus to include 21st century design—in particular, significant avant-garde American and European pieces from the likes of Memphis Design Group, Ron Arad, the Campana Brothers, and Marcel Wanders—as well as jewelry and historical building renovation. The gallery has also embarked on several creative ventures, including a private perfume label.
Historical Design’s clientele consists of major museums, architects, designers, and important collectors from around the globe. Notable exhibitions to date include shows on Archibald Knox, Christopher Dresser, and the Wiener Werkstätte, among others.
