The panels were designed ad decorations for 18th century french drugstores, and can be compared to those designed by the same Peyrotte (who was painter and furnitures designer for the King of France) for the Hotel Dieu Drugstore in Carpentas. This motif, so called “singeries”, usually shows satirical scenes of monkeys in human dresses and behaviours, and it is very rare to find it in painting. This artwork is shipped from Italy. Under existing legislation, any artwork in Italy created over 70 years ago by an artist who has died requires a licence for export regardless of the work’s market price. The shipping may require additional handling days to require the licence according to the final destination of the artwork.
