Born in California in 1981, fine and decorative artist David Wiseman studied furniture design at the Rhode Island School of Design. After a brief stint in New York, during which he worked for designer Todd Oldham, Wiseman set up his studio in 2005 in Los Angeles. He designs objects and interiors inspired by the fleeting beauty of the natural world.
Wiseman’s labor-intensive and hands-on designs are featured in private residences, as well as site-specific installations for high-end retailers (including Christian Dior stores in Shanghai and New York), and public institutions. He is highly experimental, and works with a broad range of media that includes porcelain, metals, and glass, to capture the dichotomy of power and fragility that exists in nature.
