Markus Kayser

Born in 1983 near Hannover, German designer Markus Kayser studied 3D Furniture and Product Design at London Metropolitan University from 2004 until 2008. Between 2009 and 2011, he earned his Masters in Product Design at the Royal College of Art. Kayser established his eponymous studio in London in 2011.

Kayser’s highly experimental work blurs the lines between science, engineering, and art. In response to current concerns regarding energy and material supply, he explores hybrid solutions that link technology and natural energy to consider new, existing, and forgotten processes and manufacturing methodologies. Recent notable work includes a solar-powered, computer-driven 3D printer called Solar Sinter, which utilizes the sun's rays in place of a laser to heat silicia sand, and which he tested in the Sahara Desert.

Kayser is currently in the midst of a research assistantship at the MIT Media Lab in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
