Sylvain Willenz

Born in Brussels in 1978, industrial designer Sylvain Willenz earned his Masters in Design Products from the Royal College of Art in London, graduating in 2003. In 2004, he opened his eponymous design studio in Brussels. In 2005, Willenz was awarded the honor of being the most promising designer of the year at the Design Brussels fair.

Willenz’s design work spans the arenas of furniture, IT electronics, accessories, lighting, and other products. Willenz is known for an approach that places great emphasis on the manufacturing and production processes, a passion for simple forms, and a fascination with material experimentation. Clients include Cappellini, Established & Sons, Freecom, Hay, and Chevalier Edition, among others. In 2009, Willenz was nominated for Belgian Designer of the Year and this year, Willenz’s hand-assembled cast glass BLOCKS (2012) for Victor Hunt won the Wallpaper Award for Best Accessory 2013.
