Tom Dixon

Tom Dixon was born in Tunisia in 1959, but moved to Great Britain when he was four. This self-proclaimed maverick of the design world arrived at the field via an unconventional route, living out his formative years as an art school dropout, a party organizer, and a bassist for a band called Funkapolitan. At twenty-five, he started to weld furniture and sculpture, often using found materials, first for clubs and soon after for London-based galleries.

Dixon founded his studio in 1991. Drawing inspiration from the idea of “creative recycling” and experimenting with unusual materials, he has designed objects and interiors for Terence Conran, Jean Paul Gaultier, Romeo Gigli, Ralph Lauren, and Vivienne Westwood. He has developed products for Cappellini, Driade, Inflate, and SCP.

Since 2002, the Tom Dixon studio has grown into a design and manufacturing brand, launching self-produced collections annually with products and limited editions sold around the world.
