About This Piece

Vintage Design

Highly intricate piece of Dutch tramp art with original glass dating from 1904 - bought from a country house estate in Belgium - in very good condition for its age. At the top the word ‘Souvenir’, either side letters, ‘D’ and ‘E’, and to the bottom ‘1904’ with four inset glass cabochons.
Included within the frame is a hand-tinted photograph /carte de visite of Soldier Henri De Latte 1881-1962. The back of the frame shows a label detailing that the Veteran served in the First World War 1914-1918, and was honored with the Commemorative and Victory Medal and Order of Leopold II Medal.
(The previous owner added wooden straps to hold the picture in place).
Tramp art is a woodworking style where decorative objects were whittled from small pieces of wood - usually from cigar boxes and packing crates - and assembled into layers with geometric patterns. Some are inlaid with carved hearts or stars, others feature applied decoration made of ‘found’ materials like bits of china or glass.

Item will be left in its packaging after delivery.
