Vintage Design

Rare large floor lamp designed by Oscar Torlasco and manufactured by Lumi, Italy 1950. This large sized floor lamp has nice proportions and an interesting asymmetrical shape. The large brass base is slightly bent so it will keep its balance with the large dish shaped shade. The shade can be rotated so it can be used as a reading lamp next to a sofa for example. The brass base was recently polished but already got a little patina again. The mint green shade is in original condition and has paint loss which is visible on the pictures. We personally love the characteristics of this paint loss but if wanted this can be professionally refinished. The lamp has nice small details such as the diffuser CAP on the inside of the shade, small brass ball screws and the flat shaped end of the arm where the shade is attached. We assure you this lamp is much more interesting than a picture can tell. Uses 4 E14 bulbs up to 25 watt each.

About the Creator

Oscar Torlasco

Italian lighting designer Oscar Torlasco (born in Rome, 1934-2004) designed for a wide array of Italian lighting manufacturers including Esperia and Stilkronen, though he spent most of his career designing for Lumi.

Particularly active during the 1950s and 1960s, Torlasco’s lighting designs - which span sconces, floor lamps, and chandeliers - often utilized industrial chromed steel which he paired with more luxurious materials such as marble, crystal, and brass. His eclectic designs ranged in style from industrial and Space Age to Italian Art Deco. The use of optical glass lenses within his designs is considered Torlasco's signature. In 1959, he was awarded a Compasso d`Oro for his public street light Genova 4053 (1959).
