About This Piece

Vintage Design

An exceptional and architecturally conceived French Art Deco daybed, circa 1925–1930, executed in the manner of Paul Follot.

This rare and unusually large piece integrates seating, display, and storage into a unified architectural composition. The upper structure is composed of five individual vitrines retaining their original geometric leaded and multi-beveled glass panels, each centered by an oval cartouche motif. These are arranged around a central sequence of three arched openings with mirrored backing, creating depth and a strong rhythmic presence.
The asymmetrical lower section incorporates an open shelving unit to one side and an enclosed cabinet to the other.

Crafted in warm-toned wood with finely executed bookmatched veneer, the structure is articulated by rounded forms and fluted columns, and finished with a hand-hammered brass base detail.

A rare and highly decorative statement piece, reflecting the transition between Viennese Secession and early French Art Deco, ideally suited for collectors, galleries, or refined interior settings.

The wooden structure is in good condition and all original glass, mirrors, hardware, and keys intact. Original upholstery shows light age-related wear; internal springs have relaxed and may benefit from adjustment or reupholstery for improved comfort.
