Vintage Design

Gilt table with red lacquered top. with curved and elaborate lines, its refined design is strongly derived from the Chippendale style named after the famous English furniture maker of the 1700s, Thomas Chippendale, who in the mid-1800s designed furniture in the Rococo style sometimes with the addition of oriental decorations. It is part of a conspicuous production of furniture components that from the 1940s to the late 1950s are defined by their Chippendale-style shapes even though they deviate considerably from the lines of the original 18th-century ones. Except for the top, made from softwood planks, the frame is made of maple wood and exquisitely hand-carved. The table has recently undergone an original and eye-catching restling. Its bases are finished and treated with fine gold waxes, as are the top moldings except for the outer border, which has been ebonized. The under-top band and top are lacquered in oriental red; the top is also decorated with geometrically patterned threading painted gold and black. The table is finished with shellac pad polishing.
