This Kokeshi is an exclusive and difficult to find collector's piece. It is easily recognizable as the work of the famous Inosuke Kobayashi. It's Koleshi are often heavy and large round pieces like this.
Craftsman Kokeshi winner of the Prime Minister prize and his Kokeshi are collected all over the world. Kobayashi was born in 1931 and died at an early age. His date of death is unknown. This Kokeshi is dated Showa 56 which is 1981.
The Kokeshi are handcrafted wooden dolls handmade by Japan. The most common theory is that they appeared during the time period (1830-1843). They have become famous souvenirs and real decorative objects, for some also collectibles. This Kokeshi has some signs of wear. Height 29 cm weight 3.7 kg"
