Large Modernist Art Movement Brutalist Iron Wall Sculpture, 1950s

Very expressive wall sculpture that evokes the pure, ‘naive’ and un-sophisticated styles and patterns of the 1950ies brutalism and COBRA movement. By methods of torch cut-and-welding rough parts of iron the artist of this piece has composed this fantastic abstract figure. The surface of the thick iron elements are rough and oxidized, the torch cut, heating and welding process have given a varied and appealing texture to the sculpture. Integrated ceramic green / turquoise colored parts. All very solid executed- and heavy piece! ( 25 kilo ) Perfect complementary piece for a ‘mix and match’ interior or a midcentury modernist fifties interior.

The term ‘Brutalism’ ( derives from the French word brut, meaning raw ) was coined to describe an architectural movement that emerged in the fifties of the 20th century. It has been adopted by the realms of art and design to refer to expressive, attention grabbing ‘naive’ creations made of rough, high relief materials that forms a contrast with the polished, smooth and sophisticated ( related artists are Harry Bertoia, Curtis Jere, Paul Evans, Henrik Horst and Paul Kingma ).
