Monumental sculpture of the Immaculate Conception, created around 1885 in the workshops of the renowned Mayer & Cie firm in Munich, then known as the "Royal Institute of Christian Art." This exquisitely crafted work bears the monogram "R" of the sculptor Johann Nepomuk Roth (1841–1899), one of the firm's leading artists.
Standing at an exceptional height of 138 cm, the Virgin Mary stands with her hands clasped in an attitude of prayer and contemplation. Her face, of ineffable gentleness, embodies grace and purity. The sky-blue drapery edged in gold, the crown of flowers, the serpent, and the crescent moon at her feet symbolize the Immaculate Conception in the Catholic tradition.
This statue, perfectly preserved in its original polychromy and gilding, testifies to the masterful craftsmanship of late 19th-century German religious sculpture. It combines spirituality, beauty, and decorative power—a true sacred and heritage art object.

Origin and History
Founded in Munich in 1847 by Joseph-Gabriel Mayer, the Mayer & Cie workshop was elevated to the status of Royal Institute of Christian Art in 1882 by King Ludwig II of Bavaria. The workshop, renowned for its stained glass and church sculptures, worked for the most prestigious sanctuaries in Europe and received the title of Pontifical Institute in 1892. This piece belongs to this period of excellence, where each work was conceived as a union of faith, beauty, and technical perfection.
The sculptor Johann Nepomuk Roth, active between 1870 and 1899, was one of the most celebrated creators of the Mayer firm. He designed several models of the Virgin Mary, characterized by a gentle expression and a balance of lines reminiscent of Italian statuary.
