This is a truly stunning antique pair of French Grand Tour solid bronze busts of Mercury and Apollo, dating from the late 19th century. The pair feature dark brown patinated finely cast busts with ormolu socles and mounted on rouge marble pedestals. These high-quality hot cast solid bronze statues were produced using the traditional "lost wax" process, otherwise known as the "cire perdue" method. The attention to detail here is remarkable and this wonderful pair of bronze busts are sure to receive the maximum amount of attention wherever placed. He was also the personal agent and herald of Zeus, the king of the gods. Hermes was depicted as either a handsome and athletic, beardless youth, or as an older bearded man. His attributes included the herald's wand or kerykeion (Latin caduceus), winged boots, and sometimes a winged travellers CAP and chlamys cloak. He was known as Mercury to the Romans. Apollo is a god in Greek mythology, and one of the Twelve Olympians. He is the son of Zeus and Leto and the twin brother of Artemis. He is the god of healing, medicine, archery, music, poetry and the sun. ... He also is a god of prophecy, and his Oracle at Delphi is very important.
