Vintage Design

This desk is designed and manufactured by Peter Løvig Nielsen in Denmark in 1968. There is a logo and a year stamp. This desk shows very good quality and manufacturing techniques. The floating top and the upstanding edge in the back of the desk top makes it a light design. The 2x3 drawers in the front and 3 book shelves in the back offer a lot of storage room. There are extremely beautiful drawings in the wood, especially on the desk top. About the Creator

Peter Løvig Nielsen

There is currently no verifiable biographical information available on the Danish designer Peter Løvig Nielsen.

Designing in the Scandinavian modern style that took the design world by storm in the 1950s and ‘60s, Løvig Nielsen is known for his wooden desks, tables, and storage units. Like many of his Danish contemporaries, Løvig Nielsen favored high-quality and beautifully grained woods such as teak, rosewood, and walnut, and his designs often featured tapered legs and organic curved edges. One of his most well-known designs is sometimes referred to as the Boomerang Desk (c.1956) which features an L-shaped table top on V-shaped legs with subtle brass detailing.

Although he was relatively unknown in the mid-century era, Løvig Nielsen’s designs have been rediscovered in the 21st century by vintage dealers due to the unusual ease in identifying them. Stamped “Løvig” or “Hedensted Møbelfabrik” for the Danish village in which they were produced, as well as the year of production, Løvig Nielsen’s beautifully crafted designs are experiencing a vintage revival.
