About This Piece

Vintage Design

A set of six bent beech wood chairs model 124, designed by Helena and Jerzy Kurmanowicz, was produced in the Radomsko Wood Industry Plant in the 1950s. In 1959, this design won first prize in a competition organized by PAGED. The common name "heart" comes from the backrest made of bent plywood, which resembles a heart in shape.

An important aspect of this model is the consistency of the manufacturing technology. Each wooden element of the chair has been bent, and the wooden ring on which the seat is mounted is made from a single piece, ensuring structural integrity. The legs also underwent this bending process, providing a harmonious aesthetic to the overall "heart-shaped" design.

The seats and backs are upholstered with soft boucle fabric (brown, grey, orange) Although the chairs come from the same set, due to the manufacturing technique, they may slightly differ in the width of the leg spacing or the curvature of the bending.
