Orfeo tamburi (1910-1994), ricordi di pompei, oil on canvas, italy, 1962. certificate of authenticity issued by galleria gioacchini, ancona, april 6, 2002. orfeo tamburi, draftsman, painter, journalist, was born in jesi in 1910 where he graduated from the technical institute in 1926. thanks to a scholarship, he moved to rome in 1928 to enroll at the art school in via ripetta and later at the academy of fine arts. after a stay in paris where, visiting museums and galleries, he discovers czanne's painting, orfeo tamburi returns to rome in 1935, takes part in the ii quadriennale and dedicates himself above all to the landscape, favoring his fresh vein of drawing. in 1936 he was commissioned to paint a fresco in the palazzo dell'anagrafe entitled roman carnival, while he continued to produce and exhibit, in 1938 at the iii quadriennale, at the ii milanese exhibition of "corrente", and, in january 1940, with the roman group of guttuso, guzzi, montanarini, ziveri, fazzini at the galleria di roma in a significant exhibition of the new "realist" climate. in the 1940s tamburi designed sketches and scenes for the "la sacra rappresentazione di abramo e isacco" by feo belcari and he was commissioned to create six panels for the eur atrium with the history of the theater from origins to melodrama, of which only the cartoons will be made; he takes part to the venice biennale, holds a solo show at the galleria barbaroux in milan and gino severini dedicates a small monograph to him. in 1944 he published the volume of drawings piccola roma, with a poem by ungaretti and also illustrates stendhal's roman walks. from 1947 orfeo tamburi moved to paris which from that moment became his city while always maintaining close contacts with the roman environment. in 1948 the painter was invited to exhibit at the muse d'art du livre in brussels, at the "rive gauche" gallery in paris and the following year he exhibited at the "wolsenberg" gallery in zurich and at the l'athene "galle
