About This Piece

Dahlia 9 is a gorgeous Archival Inkjet Print by contemporary photographer Philip Gatward.

This print 16" x 20" in a limited edition of 50 prints.

Gatward's first personal project, 'Dahlias', focussed on the intricacies of this unusual flower.

In this floral portrait by Philip Gatward, the photographer emphasises the unusual structure of the flower head by shooting from an oblique angle that enhances the sinuous and curvaceous nature of the Dahlia variety.

The gentle lilac petals reach out to touch the viewer with their unique structure, curving one over the other and almost resembling a couture gown.

In this ongoing and varied series, Gatward shoots his subjects, which range from flowers to animals, against the same neutral grey background, which brings out the fascinating symmetry of seeing something seemingly ordinary from very close up.

The stunning variety and intense colours of these images are irresistible.

As he studies the beauty and uniqueness of his subjects Gatward compels you to notice the minute details that distinguishes them all.
