Scandinavian Modern Boet Easy Chair by Otto Schulz

Easy chair ”Boet” by Otto Schulz from the mid 20th century. The chair is a prime example of the the Scandinavian 20th century design with attractive proportions and sleek finishes. This chair has a luxurious touch with the thick cushion and padded backrest. The fabric is the original fabric but it’s significantly faded in places, the padding is in ok condition. There are some minor marks of use on the legs. The legs which are lacquered hardwood. ”Boet”, which roughly translates to the ”the nest” or ”the home” is one of Schulz more iconic and recognisable designs.

Otto Schulz (1882-1970) was a German-born designer and architect who spent a large part of his life in Gothenburg, Sweden. In 1920 he founded the firm ”Boet” together with Adolf Nordeberg which grew to be a very influential interior and furniture maker. Schulz had a daring and varied aesthetic which has become important to both the Swedish Grace and Scandinavian Modern movements. In addition to the store, ”Boet” was also a journal that Schulz published in accordance with the firm and they would both fortify Schulz’s position in the interior design world. And this chair is the namesake of both the firm and journal.
