Space Age Modular Sofa, 1970s, Set of 4

Exceptional four-piece modular sofa produced in Czechoslovakia circa the 1970s, characterized by generous sculptural proportions, deep seating and the soft rounded forms associated with Space Age and late Mid-Century design. The seating group consists of four individual modules, providing considerable flexibility in configuration. The pieces can be assembled into one substantial sofa measuring approximately 273 cm (107.48 in) wide or separated to create individual lounge chairs and alternative conversational seating arrangements. The design is particularly notable for its substantial upholstered volumes. Deep seats, softly contoured backs and oversized cushions create an inviting lounge-oriented profile, while one section incorporates distinctive upholstered armrests supported by sculptural metal elements. The entire set has been carefully refurbished and newly upholstered in a highly textured fabric combining green, black and cream tones. The richly woven surface complements the rounded architecture of the furniture and gives the vintage design a fresh yet period-appropriate appearance. The internal wooden structures provide a substantial foundation, while discreet wooden elements remain visible along the lower edges of selected modules. with its unusual modular construction, dramatic proportions and distinctly 1970s aesthetic, this is a highly decorative seating ensemble suitable for a large living room, loft, hotel lobby, lounge, gallery or sophisticated contemporary interior.
