The beautiful Pomona farm

Figs Figs Figs

By Ambra Medda

While I was in Puglia I visited Pomona—associazione per la valorizzazione della biodiversità (association for the enhancement of biodiversity)—an amazing farm where they grow 300 different types of figs from all over the world: France, Bosnia, Romania, Italy, Syria, USA . . .

Paolo Belloni
Paolo Belloni, owner of Pomona and author of Fighi Di Puglia, is, as you would guess, a fig specialist. While he showed us around the property, Paolo gave us an incredibly informative talk about figs, including the intricacies of fig tree sexuality . . . apparently much more complex than human sexuality.

And of course, as you do when you're surrounded by fig trees, we got to sample a few. San biaggio was definitely my favorite.
