Table Lamp by Eric Wärnå for Ewå, 1950s

Elegant and highly characteristic Swedish Mid-Century table lamp designed by Eric Wärnå and produced by Ewå Armaturfabrik in Värnamo during the 1950s. This refined and sculptural piece combines functionality with a distinctive organic form, most notably seen in the cast iron base shaped like a stylised crow’s foot—both visually striking and ingeniously engineered for stability and versatility.

The lamp features a beautifully curved brass goose neck that allows for flexible positioning of the light, paired with a conical shade finished in a textured pastel grey wrinkle paint. The interplay between the matte, tactile surface and the warm tone of the brass creates a balanced and sophisticated aesthetic, typical of Swedish Modern design at its best.

Thanks to its cleverly designed slotted base, the lamp is not only stable on a desk or table, but can also be mounted on the wall, making it a highly versatile lighting piece. It works equally well as a desk lamp in a study, a reading light next to a lounge chair, a bedside lamp, or as an accent light in a living room or hallway. Its sculptural presence also allows it to function as a decorative object even when not illuminated.

The lamp measures approximately 54 cm (21.3 in) in height, with a shade diameter of approximately 12.5 cm (4.9 in), and a base measuring approximately 15 x 12 cm (5.9 x 4.7 in). These proportions give the piece a strong visual presence while remaining compact enough to integrate easily into a wide range of interiors.

The lamp is marked underneath with deep stamps: “S” for Sweden, “EWÅ VÄRNAMO”, and model number “B49”, confirming its origin and authenticity. It has been fully rewired with a black twisted textile cord and is suitable for a 110–240 Volt electricity grid, making it ready for worldwide use. The lamp is fitted with a standard E27 Medium Edison Screw socket (also compatible with E26).

Condition is good vintage, with light wear and patina consistent with age and use, adding character without detracting from its overall appearance.
