Exquisite and very refined modern work on wood board depicting the famous gulf of La Spezia, Italy. The work is realized in the typical Donghi's style: in a magical, surrealistic an fantastic world, the part of the landscape appear in an enlighted atmosphere. On the right side, there is the silhouette of a church and, on the foreground, the surface of the sea and the small port are calm in a suspended and motionless atmosphere. This work has been realized by the Italian artist Antonio Donghi (1897 - 1963).Donghi studied painting at the Institute of Fine Arts di Belle Arti, where he graduated in 1916. After the military service in World War First, he studied art in Florence and Venice. Possessed of an extremely refined technique, Donghi favored strong composition, spatial clarity, and populist subjects. His figures have a gravity and an archaic reminiscence that evoke Piero della Francesca work. Critics likened his poetics to the main important Naif painter: Henry Rousseau, whose scenes of contemporary life are similarly touched with a subtle humor. His still lifes often consist of a small vase of flowers. Donghi achieved both popular and critical success. In 1927, Donghi won First Prize in an International Exhibition at the Carnage Institute. Most of Donghi's works are in Italian collections and National Museums. This object is shipped from Italy.
