We are delighted to offer for sale this sublime suite of ten original fully stamped Matteo Grassi MG5 circa 1970 whisky brown leather armchairs designed by the genius that was Marcel Breuer If you’re looking at this listing then the chances are you know exactly what these chairs are, I’ll provide some information on Grassi and Breuer below This suite is in very fine order, they have the tubular chromed frames, suspension leather seats, the backs of each chair are stamped as we only dream to find, Matteo Grassi, I have never seen such a large complete suite before These have been fully restored by my leather polishers who were trained by Ralph Lauren, the leather has been washed back, hand dyed six times, antiqued, sealed and waxed, these are the only suite in the world with this exact colour finish, they are sublime Dimensions Height:- 71.5cm Width:- 77cm Depth:- 54cm Seat height:- 43cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point Matteo Grassi founded in 1880, is an Italian furniture manufacturer, characterized by their eclectic and angular designs. Combining Mid-Century Modernism, 1960s-era futuristic design, and the geometric forms of Bauhaus, Matteo Grassi's line of Minimalist pieces includes a wide variety of seating and functional furniture, such as chaise lounges, stools, armchairs, sofas, tables, and modular seating cubes. Marcel Adios Breuer (21 May 1902 – 1 July 1981), was a Hungarian-born modernist architect, and furniture designer. At the Bauhaus he designed the Wassily Chair and the Cesca Chair which is “among the 10 most important chairs of the 20th century. Breuer extended the sculpture vocabulary he had developed in the carpentry shop at the Bauhaus into a personal architecture that made him one of the world's most popular architects at the peak of 20th-century design. His work includes art museums, libraries, college buildings, office buildings, and residences. Many are in a Brutalist architecture style, including the former IBM Research and Development facility which was the birthplace of the first personal computer.
