Vintage Design

Set of twelve organic shaped dining chairs in teak designed by the Danish designer Johannes Andersen for Uldum Møbelfabrik in 1965.

The comfortable chairs feature a solid carefully shaped teak frame with lots of organic shapes that mingle into each other creating a light and elegant chair.

The chairs have been fully restored and refinished by our cabinetmakers to ensure that they are in very good condition with only minimal signs of age and use.

Detailed Condition	Restored — This vintage/antique item is in very good condition because it has been refreshed through new upholstery and/or refinishing.
Restoration and Damage Details	Reupholstered, Completely restored, Surface has been refinished, All joints checked and reglued under pressure if any signs of getting loose, all other needed repairs made, frames samded 2 - 3 ttimes by hand and revarnished 2 - 3 times. Seats deupholstered and reupholstered with foam and fabric.

About the Creator

Johannes Andersen

While information on designer Johannes Andersen is limited and difficult to verify, it is believed that he was born in 1903 in Aarhus, Denmark, and that he initially apprenticed as a cabinetmaker. He went on to work for many years in a number of workshops before opening his own architectural and furniture workshop in the 1930s.

Andersen’s designs span seating, tables, and storage in well-crafted materials, such as rosewood and teak. His career paralleled the midcentury’s growing appreciation for Danish furniture designs, and he attracted international attention—particularly for coffee tables like the highly sculptural Smile Table.

Andersen worked steadily for his own firm—as well as Swedish, Danish, and Norwegian companies such as Trensum, CFC Silkeborg, Bramin, and Uldum Møbelfabrik—until he closed his shop in his eighties. He passed away in 1991.
