Designed by Lucian Ercolani in 1956, the Studio Couch is a charming and practical addition to the 21st century home. In used condition. Structurally sound. The webbing is in good condition. The upholstery is fraying in several areas and the daybed cushions may benefit from being reupholstered. The foam in the main seat cushion is starting to deteriorate, this would benefit from being replaced at some point, but can be used as it is. There are various signs of use/wear commensurate with the age, particularly to the wood, some marks, scuffs and scratches. The back board would benefit from a fine sanding/polish, please see photos.


The furniture company Ercol is responsible for some of Britain’s most recognisable design icons. Synonymous with natural wood pieces, the family owned business has been producing carefully crafted furniture that is made to last for nearly 100 years. It was founded by a young Italian called Lucian Ercolani who moved to London in 1898 with his parents. He took drawing and design classes at the Institute and then entered the City & Guilds exams in theory and construction of furniture. Ercolani’s three brothers also worked in the industry and he began his career with them. However, in 1920 he set up his own factory and the Ercol that we know today was born. His goal was to make furniture that was well designed in a good working environment by craftsmen who took pride in their jobs. The ethos still rings true. Ercol pieces of furniture are highly sought after and remain design timeless classics.
