Vintage Design

This rare porcelain figurine of a seated giraffe was crafted in the USSR in 1953, as marked on the underside with the inscription “1953 MADE IN URSS.” Measuring 30 cm in height, the piece is notable for its stylized yet expressive depiction of the animal — a signature feature of Soviet-era porcelain sculpture.

The figure also has a small vent hole on the underside, typical of mid-century porcelain casting techniques, allowing gases to escape during the kiln firing process. The glaze is smooth and glossy, with hand-painted details enhancing the giraffe’s spots and facial expression.

Pieces like this were often produced by major state-run factories such as Lomonosov or Dulevo, though exact attribution is difficult without a factory stamp. Nonetheless, this is a rare collectible that reflects the craftsmanship and aesthetic values of post-war Soviet decorative arts.

In excellent vintage condition, with no visible chips, cracks, or repairs. A unique addition to any collection of animal figurines or mid-century porcelain.
