Born in Venice in 1914 and educated at the prestigious Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia, Brotto combined the vision of a fine artist with the innovation of a designer. His early career included commissions connected to the renowned Peggy Guggenheim collection, laying the foundation for an extraordinary artistic journey.

During the 1960s and 1970s, Brotto collaborated with the Murano glass manufacturer Esperia, creating lighting designs that challenged traditional Murano glassmaking conventions. Rather than treating glass as a decorative addition, he transformed it into the central artistic element, resulting in luminous sculptures that perfectly balanced craftsmanship, elegance, and modernity.

Throughout his career, Brotto participated in numerous biennials and received prestigious awards for both art and design.
