French, antique, farmhouse console table made of walnut,
from the "Directoire period" (not style), from the late 18th to very early 19th century.
All of the characteristics, original components, design and construction of this hand made piece, indicate that this table is from said period.
Lots of traditional joinery techniques are present of the table, such as: Dovetail, Mortise and Tenon, and a locking joint known as a "wedged projecting" tenon, also referred to as a "tusk" tenon.
All of the planks underneath the bottom of the drawer, are thick and shaped in such a way, that show ancient marks of wood- working hand tools, not mechanical tools, further indicating this handmade by an artisan. The wood of the table top, is also a sign that the piece is from this period, as one does not see similar walnut used these days.
The table is in good, original, and vintage condition for a piece of of nearly 230 to 240 years old. Some marks, signs of age and previous use commensurate with time, as can be expected for a piece of this age, as well as some previously done, old repairs on the top, legs, and inside of the drawer. Some old marks and signs of woodworm on the legs, leg tips, sides, inside of the drawer, and overall structure (see photos), but the piece has been fully treated, oiled with linseed oil and waxed, with respect to its original, beautiful, patina of time
Drawer is fully functional and has its original pull knob (see photos.)
All photos taken in natural, outdoor light, so colors may vary based upon brightness, reflections, angles and perspective in which they are viewed.
