About This Piece

This watercolor by Alberto Prosdocimi depicts a view of the Basilica della Madonna della Salute in Venice and bears the artist's signature at lower left. This work is framed with a coeval "Venetianina" frame, made of carved wood, lacquered and highlighted in gold. Its dimensions are 77.5 cm by 106 cm. Frames of this type, commonly called "venezianine," were widely used by Venetian painters in the late 19th and mid-20th centuries. Anti-reflective and anti-UV museum glass protects the work, helping to preserve it over time. The work is published on page 17 of the catalog edited by Marco Dolfin for the exhibition "'900 in the Lagoon, Venetian Glimpses from Private Collections" held in Mestre from April 6 to 28, 2024.
