Antique Heavily Carved Oak & Hand Dyed Leather Dining Chairs, London, 1890s, Set of 8

An exceptional set of eight English antique carved oak dining chairs with leather seating. Maker's label 'Hewetsons Tottenham Court Rd London.' Circa 1890.

The set consists of two armchairs and six single chairs. They are of excellent quality, all individually hand carved, with the fronts depicting crisp pierced grape vines, scrolls and foliage, with central motif. They stand on part turned and carved supports with finials.

The seats have been fully re-sprung, reupholstered and covered in a high quality soft, full-grain unfinished leather hide, which has then been professionally hand dyed and finished, giving character. The seating is finished with close decorative nails.

The oak frames are in very good condition and have been cleaned and waxed and have their original finish, showing some very light signs of use. All chairs are sturdy with no loose joints, and free from any damage or woodworm. Maker's label to one of the single chairs and armchair.
