"Made by Mücke Melder, an influential modernist furniture manufacturer that specialised in tubular steel designs.

It has been restored and reupholstered by our professional refurbishing team in Czechia according to the original process. The chrome parts have been cleaned and professionally restored. The new upholstery is high quality fabric, it's very easy to clean and retains its colours very well even in direct sunlight.

You can custom order this item with any upholstery you want, from soft leather to premium backhausen fabric, the choice is yours.

This item features classic Bauhaus design elements. Elements of this style are neutral colours, and occasional bright primary colours. Bauhaus designers avoided the fussy and pretentious, looking for clean, modern lines instead. Perfect for a timeless, yet modern look.

More about the manufacturer:

Mucke Melder began production in 1928 with furniture made of nickel-plated and chrome-plated steel. The first type was a spring chair designed by A. Lurcat for the company Thonet, whose designs he often used under license. Arnošt Beck designed her own design for it.

About the Maker

Mücke Melder

Mücke-Melder was a Czech modernist furniture manufacturer specialized in tubular steel chair and table designs. Although many details of the enterprise’s history have been obscured by time, the products of Mücke-Melder’s active manufacturing from the late 1920s into the postwar period are sought-after on today’s vintage market.

Based in Fryštát, Mücke-Melder produced furniture that was heavily inspired by the contemporaneous designs of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Mart Stam, Marcel Breuer, and Le Corbusier, among others, which enchanted the Czech avant-garde at the time.

An emblematic selection of Mücke-Melder’s oeuvre includes the chrome-plated tubular steel FN 21 Famos Armchair (1930), which owes its form, unmistakably, to Mies van der Rohe’s iconic cantilevered Brno Chair, designed ca. 1929-1930 for his nearby and renowned Tugendhat House in Brno, Czech Republic.
