Superb Art Nouveau/Jugendstil porcelain plate from Meissen (Germany, early 20th century) decorated with the famous “Peitschenhieb" motif ('Whiplash' pattern) designed by Henry Van De Velde in 1903/1904. Diameter: 22.9 cm/9'', height: 2.5 cm/1''.

Marked underneath with the underglaze blue crossed swords (first choice). Impressed Van de Velde’s mark, ’71.’ in underglaze blue and ‘2R’ (embossed). Excellent original condition.
