French Snail Wrought Iron Table Lamp, 1920s

Vintage Design

This is a stunning piece of craftsmanship. The lamp shows three snails which are holding a bronze cup in which a glass lampshade is held. The milk glass lampshade is surrounded by a bronze swirled bar which ends in an arrow (like) point. The whole lamp is hand made and shows a very high quality of finish. The snails are made of two pieces (1st - the head/body/tail and 2nd - the house). The snails have been applied (given form) in a loose manner. Meaning that they are detailed roughly. These parts, forming the lamp, are placed on a thick bronze hammered plate. The bronze balls are formed in the same rough way and are locked into the plate (invisible).
