This 'double cabinet' style from Shanxi province in Central China dates back to the mid nineteenth century and features its original black finish and door hardware, making it a rare find today. The classic, unfettered design speaks to its origin, while the original details, particularly the hardware, are a testament to its survival of China's 'Great Leap Forward.'

The original black lacquer finish, though aged and slightly faded, remains intact. Cracks on the doors add an authentically aged look, and signs of wear and use on the top surface, such as a circular mark, evoke the cabinet's past use as a base for ancestor offerings. Boasting a simple style, neutral palette and wonderful aged patina, this marvelous cabinet would fit seamlessly into any indoor space, offering an unparalleled history and arresting presence.
