"Fanciulla con Cardo" is a breathtaking oil painting finely realised by the Italian painter Alfonso Rocchi in 2018.
Alfonso Rocchi was born in 1951 in the Italian Alps, Bergamo.
His relationship with the nature that surrounds him is really evident in his paintings. In fact, this unique oil painting on board captures the essence of the Renaissance era, portraying a young woman alongside an alpine flower.
The artwork skilfully creates a suggestive atmosphere through realistic details and a play of contrasts between the graceful figure of the young lady and the natural beauty of the thistle.
The painting has elegantly been framed by the artist by using an antique wood sourced from a former nunnery, adding historical value and character to this captivating depiction. The painter has also woodworkers skills and conceives his frames by himself.
All the colours used in the painting were manually created by the painter by using ancient techniques such as the use of the egg yolk as done in the past by Botticelli and Leonardo.
