Showing an intimate space with a bright palette and textured brush strokes, Ekaterina Popova's oil paintings from her series "In the Bedroom" are very expressive and will certainly be a feature piece in any space. Artist Statement - Ekaterina Popova "For the past few years, I have been exploring interiors in my work. The interest started as a way for me to reflect on my upbringing in Russia, but eventually progressed to exploring the overall idea of “home” and what it means me now. The work has slowly evolved from being reflective and sentimental to being mindful and present in my current environment. I repeatedly paint my own bedroom, visit other people’s houses, and use reference photos submitted to me by others online. My paintings include messy rooms, intimate items, and objects that refer to human presence without including the figure. I pick up on the subtle tones, lighting, and mood of each location in order to capture the emotion I associate with the space and then exaggerate the color to create a dream-like image." Ekaterina Popova was born in Vladimir, Russia. After moving to the United States, she fell in love with painting and received a BFA from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania. Her work has been exhibited nationally, including The Painting Center in New York, Art Miami Fairs, The Trenton City Museum, Delaware Contemporary, Uforge Gallery, The Painted Bride Center, The Boxheart Gallery, A.I.R. Gallery and more. She has been featured in multiple blogs and publications, including Aesthetica, The Jealous Curator, Professional Artist Magazine, Studio Visit Magazine, Iceview and The Philadelphia Inquirer. Ekaterina works out of her studio in Philadelphia, PA.

About the Creator

Rooms

Nata Janberidze and Keti Toloraia, the designers and cofounders of Rooms, were both born in Tbilisi, Georgia in 1981. They met and became friends while studying Design at Tbilisi Academy of Arts. The pair graduated in 2003, and began collaborating on interior and product design projects that same year. Rooms was officially founded in 2007.

Rooms is based in Tbilisi. The studio focuses on interior and product design projects on the local and international stage—from hotels, restaurants, and residential projects to furniture, lighting, and accessories. Following a successful collaboration with the brand, Moooi included Rooms’ Position Lamp in its 2011 catalogue. The studio has also exhibited widely, including the 2013 Ventura Lambrate, presentations at Mint Gallery during London Design Festival 2011 and 2012, and in 100% Design London 2009. The design duo asserts that the mixture of Asian and European cultures that make up the Georgian identity is a major influence on their work.
