About This Piece

The landscape with the hills of Florence, its monuments and Brunelleschi's cathedral serve as an elegant backdrop for this romantic portrait of an elegant Italian lady. The woman painted in an off-the-shoulder pink evening gown is reading a love letter, standing on a terrace with a magnificent panorama and furnished with antiques.
Painted with a soft pastel colors palette, the softly falling, iridescent fabrics are matched by the virtuoso and loosely applied impasto brushstrokes. The natural beauty and porcelain complexion of this young woman are highlighted by a red cloth that falls gently on her shoulder and a graceful pose. The painter manages to give her a sweet dreamy look, but at the same time thoughtful, portraying her in an intimate moment.
Each element of this painting takes us back to a romantic ancient world and the fashion of the art nouveau period. The taste of the late 19th Century echoes in the furnishings from the Louis XVI chair and the center table filled with a flower arrangement to the chinoiserie screen.
